English Quarter 1: Students will be reading the book, "Monster", an autobiography of a Los Angeles gang member. The book discusses what it was like to be a gang member in LA during the turbulent and violent uprising of LA street gangs during the late 1970's through the 1980's. We will discuss what the causes and affects that gangs had on their communities , as well as to compare on contrast these incidents with other traumatic events in U.S. history.
Quarter 2: Continuation of "Monster"
Quarter 3: Students will be reading the book, "A Walk in the Woods", an autobiography of a man who reconnected with an old acquaintance and set out to hike the Appalachian Trail (AT) with him. The book highlights their experiences as well as notes the ecological changes that have taken place over the years on the AT.
Quarter 4: Continuation of "A Walk in the Woods"
Mathematics Quarters 1-4: Students will be working on a curriculum designed to help them place well on the Accuplacer (a nationally recognized placement test that Maine's community colleges use measure a potential students skills in Math). Scoring high enough on the Accuplacer will allow students to avoid taking remedial Math classes.
